Social Media Promo… it’s as easy as ABC(D)

Social media has become one of the most important parts of an artist’s release plan, and can sometimes get overlooked because, let’s be honest… It’s freakin’ overwhelming! We’re here to put you at ease and give you our top tips for planning your content around your release. And it really is as easy as ABCD ;).

Aesthetic

There are two parts to this. The first part is to consider whether or not your release has a theme that you’d like to carry over to your social channels. Does your release artwork, main promo shot and tour artwork lend itself to a colour scheme that you could use to frame up your social posts?

The second part is to not overthink it! If there is no particular ‘theme’ to your release, or you’re not wanting to bring any sort of theme to your social account, that is totally fine! Sometimes trying to stick to an aesthetic can hinder how much you post, and the most important thing is to post authentically and regularly, rather than trying to adhere to an aesthetic.

Having said all of that – always ensure you know your tone of voice and you are consistent with it.

BTS

Having behind the scenes content is one of the most effective types of content you can have in your toolbelt. Wherever you are, whether it’s in the studio, on set for a video clip, at a promo shoot, or on tour, always remember your BTS! If you have a manager or a friend with you, put them on BTS duties. Fans love to see what you get up to behind the scenes and it’s often the most engaging content an artist can post!

Calendar

Pretend your release is a holiday and make an itinerary! When are you announcing the release? When are you revealing your artwork? How many audio and video teasers will you post and when? How many BTS posts do  you have to keep the longevity of the release promo going once it’s out? So much room for activities!

Do you, boo!

This is probably the most important tip. You do you! Don’t be scared to let your personality shine. Post with thought (why am I posting? Who am I talking to? What is my message?) and be courteous in your posting (remember, digital footprint is a thing and is hard to erase), but don’t be afraid to bring fans into your journey. Sprinkle your posts with humour and have a conversation with your followers. Fans can tell when you aren’t being real, and we all want to feel like we’re interacting with other real people.
