Ziggy Alberts serves up warmth on new single ‘Outlaw’

Award winning songwriter and performer ZIGGY ALBERTS returns with another sonically rich single in ‘OUTLAW’ – a fitting follow up to ‘NEW LOVE’, a track that heralded the beginning of a new creative arc for the beloved artist.

With ‘Outlaw’, Alberts continues to explore themes of self-growth and belief in one’s own value; it isn’t easy to hold a mirror up to oneself, but he does it here with sensitivity and grace.

“I’ve had this bad habit of trying to fit myself into this ‘busker-living-in-my-van’, and that’s not me anymore.

“This song is about realizing that and changing course for the better. Standing up for yourself more often. Being kinder, letting yourself be a little more human.”

As with ‘New Love’, Alberts collaborated with fellow artist and producer GARRETT KATO, who mixed and produced ‘Outlaw’, while also adding some instrumentation to the track.

Sonically, the track takes influences from artists as varied as Kings Of LeonThe Lumineers and The 1975, while Alberts admits that he pushed himself into foreign territory under Kato’s guidance.

“Garrett Kato really pushed me to sing loud and high on this record, and at one point in this song he asked me to go into the hallway and just essentially yell/scream. I hit some notes I never knew I could hit, and we layered them through the song.

We also had this cool moment where we layered the loud singing (in the background of the song) and the harmonies in the outro, and realized they’d be perfect for the choruses, which really has made the choruses of the song shine.”

The release of ‘Outlaw’ comes at the end of Alberts’ latest run of Australian dates, and the release of his second book of published poetry, sun memos. Fuelled by a desire to further refine his artistry and follow the threads of new inspiration wherever they may lead, Alberts is producing some of his most rejuvenated and conscious material to date.

As 2024 continues to bring fruits of success and new opportunities for Alberts, music and new art has never been far from the forefront. It makes releases like ‘Outlaw’ exciting for the artist and fans alike, as Alberts taps into new potential ready to be explored.
