Naarm/Melbourne based 4-piece Goldsocks have today released their first single for 2023, the grungey, hard-hitting track ‘Don’t Really’
Sonically comparable to the likes of Loser, Dear Seattle and Violent Soho, Goldsocks bring just the right amount of grit and passion on their new release.
‘Don’t Really’ packs plenty of punch, leaning on their 90’s alternative influences heavily with blaring down-tuned riffage, guttural vocals and a tight, pounding rhythm section.
‘Don’t Really’ fires on all cylinders from the get-go, with a wall of sound that rarely relents throughout its 3 minute run time. Front-man Angus Mcphie’s vocals growl with satisfying intensity, passionately conveying the feelings he felt following the breakdown of a tumultuous relationship.
As we’ve heard many times before, the best songs are written the quickest, and following a particularly bad day Mcphie had the song written and ready to show the rest of the band in record time.
“the song is about someone i was seeing who just seemed to want to fight about everything.. I was pretty angry when I wrote it so I tried to make it as big and boomy as I could. I had been sitting on the main riff for a while but never had any inspiration to write more till one day I was mad and smashed it out in about 15 minutes. I then showed the guys and we made some tweaks together and I finalised the lyrics and bob’s ya uncle.”

‘Don’t Really’ is the third single since the release of the bands debut album ‘Locals’ which dropped back in 2021. The band have had plenty of support for their work so far, with triple j support for their track ‘Borderline Sexy’ (2018), and previous radio play on 4ZZZ.
They’ve made waves on the live circuit too, with opening spots for the likes of The Bennies, Velvet Club and the Pretty Uglys over the years. Following the release of ‘Don’t Really’, the band plan to play a single launch on their home turf, on the 11th of November at the Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar in Melbourne.
