Inspired by legendary songwriters Parkway Drive & Deftones, WA’s LATE 90s have returned with their first track of 2023; ‘Bury Me’.
Monstrous guitar riffs carry this track along, inspired by a desire to put others’ needs and stresses in front of their own, even when going through times of hardship and difficulty.
With soaring lead lines, spoken word inclusions & half-time rhythms, the colossus of ‘Bury Me’ is undeniable.
Returning to work with acclaimed West-Australian producer Matthew Templeman (Sly Withers, Birds of Tokyo, Voyager), the band were right at home in his Hopping Mouse Studios, pulling together riffs, lyrics & even a spoken word section to produce the final version of ‘Bury Me’ heard today.
Expanding their lyrical repertoire, LATE 90s were able to add depth and eloquence to their music, moreso than ever before.
“Bury me is really about giving your all to someone or something, even when you’re feeling worthless. It’s like saying I might not have a lot but I’m willing to give my all.
I think we all go through periods of time where we go through things, but seem to almost over commit and put others needs and stress in front of our own, even if it breaks us more. The song shows how we kind of put on a brave face and continue on rather than fix ourselves at times.”
Zaac Morgan, LATE 90s
Alongside the release of ‘Bury Me’, the band have announced their debut Australian National Tour dates, reaching Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne for the first time, alongside a slew of shows for their mighty West Australian fanbase.
It also marks their signing with national booking agency Destroy All Lines & has the band sharing the Metropolis Fremantle stage with FIDLAR, a night that is set to see LATE 90s perform to their largest audience yet.
“This tour will be our first time playing shows out of WA and we couldn’t be more stoked to finally get over east and share what we have been cooking up with the rest of the country.”
Elliot Lee, LATE 90s
LATE 90s debut EP ‘Everything is Closer Than It Seems’ was released in late 2022, alongside it a tidal wave of support & the emergence of a healthy & rapidly growing fanbase.
The EP ticked over 500,000+ streams on DSP’s, with the band supporting FIDLAR, DZ Deathrays, Between You & Me & DICE in its wake. Locally support was strong with triple j (Home & Hosed, Short.Fast.Loud) airplay, triple j Unearthed (rotation), & Spotify (All New Rock, Rock Out, Local Noise, New Noise) all leaping to get behind the Perth upstarts.
Furthermore, the band found a voice overseas, with BBC Radio 1 adding two singles to rotation, as well as Nels Hylton of BBC Radio 1’s ‘Future Alternative’ naming ‘Title Track’ from their EP his track of the year.
With a strong foundation to build off of, 2023 is set to be a mammoth year for LATE 90s, with ‘Bury Me’ just the first step in their continued emergence as one of Australia’s most exciting rock bands.
