Spici Water shine a light on emotional undertones of ADHD in indie-rock heater ‘Angry Catfish’

Spici Water

With tenderness & care, Spici Water have pulled together their new single ‘Angry Catfish’ in a blanket of bedroom pop, indie fuzz & carefully considered perspective.

Channeling the often unspoken emotional perspective of an ADHD diagnosis (as experienced by frontperson AJ)Spici Water twist & turn through the difficult topic with a nuance that belies their youth, pairing strained realities with sweet, reverberating guitar rhythms, passionate yet warm vocals, with a cruising rhythm section.

“Am I thinking too much, maybe I’m thinking enough” is an anthemic call for all struggling with their own battles.

Working together for the first time as a band to compose ‘Angry Catfish’Spici Water channel bedroom-pop from the likes of Sobs and Subsonic Eye with a generous dose of their now notorious Australian indie-rock twist.

A more mellowed and docile rendition than previous track ‘GOOD NIGHT’ or than their feature last year on WA mates Late 90’s ‘Rust’, it shows the warmer & more contemplative side of Spici Water.

“Angry Catfish is a song about some of the many trials and tribulations of ADHD wrapped in a fun bedroom pop, indie rock sound. We feel that ADHD has been plastered with a stereotype of that kid bouncing off the walls in class but for many diagnosed such as our singer AJ, ADHD can be more of an emotional and thought based hyperactivity rather than physical, so we wanted to show this perspective in our song.” Spici Water

“The sound is inspired by the bedroom-pop sounds of the Sobs and Subsonic eye, with a hint of aussie indie rock to make it a unique listening experience”Spici Water

Working again with acclaimed producer Sam Ford (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, POND, Abbe May) out of Tone City Recording Studios, the band found a nurturing and familiar home with the WA producer, who was able to extract the best out of the quartet.

“Recording is always fun with Tone City, this recording session was harder than others since Sam was moving house but we were able to pull it together and worked hard on making sure this track got finished. I absolutely love the track and how it turned out. I think that it’s a super fun song that also discusses some of the many struggles of ADHD that I go through and I hope others can relate.”Spici Water
