Yazmindi releases debut album, ‘Dream On’

Yazmindi reflects on her journey through adolescence, distilling her experiences in one cohesive body of work – aptly named debut album, Dream On.

Heralding from Cooktown, Far-North Queensland, now based in Byron Bay, Yazmindi takes an honest, and sometimes tongue-in-cheek approach to authentically reflect on powerful moments of love, loss, societal pressures, youthful optimism, and determination.

Traversing genres, a common theme of empowerment, especially towards young women runs strong and true to Yazmindi’s core values.

“I share my songwriting journey from dreaming teen to ambitious young woman, my experiences of love, loss, tongue in cheek earnest situations, questioning the pressures of society and the adventures of being a human in an ever-evolving world that we can all relate to. ‘Dream On’ embodies an endearing resilience and determination, full of love and optimism for a fresh future, an album that I wish I had when I was a young teenage girl.”
Yazmindi.

Pulling aural influences, the 11-track album traverses genres, leading the next generation of indie-alternative – her repertoire expertly dances between folk, rock, pop, acoustic and soul. This pastiche of influences reflects the coming of age body of work that has seen Yazmindi, only 23, reflect on monumental personal and professional milestones.

“For my debut album I wanted to incorporate and explore all the different musical influences and genres that have inspired me in my life. Each track has a unique sound, but a common theme with the intention to keep it real and empower people, especially young women.” Yazmindi.

The album was recorded at Mountain Kauri Studio in Far North Queensland. Co-produced with QMUSIC award winning ARIA nominated mixer and producer Mark Myers (The Middle East, Greta Stanley, Emma Louise). The body of work was then mastered by Grammy Award-winning Australian sound engineer, William Bowden (Gotye, Spacey Jane, Kylie Minogue).

The teased album contains previously released singles, ‘Avocado Latte’, ‘Talk’, ‘Man’ and ‘Give it Up Jane’ and ‘Bars Ain’t Closin’. And teases the release of fresh new tracks; ‘Insomnia’. ‘Lomés Song’, ‘I Don’t Mind’, ‘Room For Two’ and ‘Fly Away’. The released singles from the album saw Yazmindi’s loveable brand of unique indie-folk achieve significant community airplay support from stations like Double J, FBi, 3RRR, SYN, 3RRR, 2SER, 4ZZZ, Bay FM, 89.7FM, ABC local radio network, and Coast Fm to name a few.

This was supported in tandem with music editorial support from AU ReviewScenestrAmnplifyFashion Industry Broadcast,GC Live,Life Without AndyThe MusicNewsport to name a few.

A strength of Yazmindi’s character is her authenticity and groundedness. Despite having performed to large crowds at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas (twice), Woodford Folk Festival and as support for Megan Washington and Troy Cassar-Daley – Yazmindi is still no stranger to playing at her local Byron Flea Market or aiding the community led Lismore flood clean-up initiative. These strong community values are a testament to the authenticity  and community-centric approach of Yazmindi.

Yazmindi is one of the next generation of singer-songwriters that build upon the previous successes of iconic front runners Missy Higgins, Julia Jacklin and Courtney Barnett. Her evocative soundscapes are a combination of deft guitar work, clean drums and swelling harmonies. Featuring her signature harmonica flair and stomp box – this body of work is undeniably and unforgettably Yazmindi.

Yazmindi recently surpassed her crowdfunding goal of 10k, reaching an impressive amount of over 14k pledged in donations. The funds raised were directed towards the production costs associated with her debut album. Being a completely independent artist who is self-managed and booked, this community support was a vital and heartwarming physicalisation of the support that exists for Yazmindi and her music.

“After two cancelled tours, this will be my debut East Coast Tour, performing and visiting all the towns where I lived, before travelling south for shows in Melbourne, which will be special, as this is where I wrote some of the songs on the album. I cannot wait! I have dreamt of this for years!”Yazmindi

This release is accompanied by a string of shows. Yazmindi will tour through QLD, NSW and VIC.
