King Blue soar with glorious track ‘Pity Love’, announce debut EP ‘Through A Screen’

Having spent the past months sharing stages with Great Gable, The Rions The Grogans, after a SOLD OUT Indian Ocean Hotel for their own ‘Breathless’ single launch, Perth indie-groovers King Blue have returned to release their next ethereal track ‘Pity Love’.

Diving deep into front woman Skye Sam’s emotional turmoil, ‘Pity Love’ examines the dichotomy of a relationship that may be unrequited, but fulfilled for convenience’s sake. Building slowly across the song, the tension and dejection builds throughout, with reverberating guitars breaking through to color the hurt and heartbreak felt by Skye

‘Pity Love’ soars as an anthem for those who’ve been hurt by careless hearts.

Almost lost to King Blue’s demo archives, ‘Pity Love’ was brought to life when guitarist Daniel Clubb drew upon three chords during rehearsal, which caught Skye Sam’s attention & captivated her thoughts.

She set to work at home, without telling the band, writing and structuring the track, a more simplistic and rudimentary method than King Blue have used previously. Bringing it to the band, they put their signature powerful ending to it & tied it together perfectly.

Working again with WAM award winning producer & engineer Andy Lawson (Tired Lion, Eskimo Joe, Gyroscope) out of his ionic Debaser Studio, they pulled the song together in the studio, with Grammy-award winning mastering engineer William Bowden (The Living End, Gotye, Spacey Jane) finishing off the track.

“‘Pity Love’ tells the story of unrequited love and the emotions that accompany that heart-wrenching experience. It’s more of a powerful ballad-type sound than our previous releases, really showcasing Skye’s dynamic vocals, with heavy hitting drums, big guitar leads and a melodic bassline.” King Blue

“‘Pity Love’ was one of those songs that was almost lost in the archives forever, but we’re grateful it wasn’t because we’re super proud of the outcome.  It was just a spur of the moment thing, we were hanging around after a rehearsal when Dan came up with 3 chords and a catchy strumming pattern that really captured Skye’s attention.

Skye really held onto it and started working on it at home. She essentially wrote the majority of the song to those three chords – following a more simplistic writing approach than our previous songs by sticking to the initial 3 chords for the verses and the choruses. We got together and finished the song with an explosive ending that really tied it together perfectly.” King Blue

Taking the chance to reach their rapidly growing fanbase in person King Blue have booked a single release show at Jack Rabbit Slims, to celebrate the launch of the track & share the stage with some of their favorite female-led Western Australian artists.

Joining them will be friends Mia June, Little Guilt Spici Water to warm the stage and celebrate the Perth powerhouses new track.

‘Pity Love’ is also a marker in King Blue’s burgeoning career, with the band today announcing their debut EP ‘Through a Screen’ set for release in September. As a band that’s emerging as front-runners in Perth’s indie-rock scene, the EP is their stamp of the King Blue sound, bringing audiences into their world & beginning to develop their unique musical voice.

“After selling out our debut single launch for ‘Games’ at Jack Rabbit Slim’s, the band has been itching to host another show at the lively venue. We’re super excited to showcase a powerful, all female-lead lineup with our good friends, Mia June, Little Guilt, and Spici Water joining us to celebrate the fresh single.”  King Blue
