Sydney’s Oly Sherman has delivered another blissful hit of indie-soul music in ‘Taste’. Driven by an insatiable bassline and addictive vocals, the new single from the songwriter and beloved performer is a fresh insight into more new music to come.
Recorded at Sherman’s home studio, with final touches applied at A-Sharp Studios, ‘Taste’ has been a project that the artist worked on with engineer Daniel Natoli. The sound, in the same vein as soulful releases from Matt Corby and Tash Sultana, is all-encompassing in its warm tone and texture.
A fresh direction for Sherman, ‘Taste’ keeps his core sound but presents it, revitalised.
“After around eight months of making new music, the idea with ‘Taste’ was to make something that people could dance to, whilst still feeling like an ‘Oly Sherman’ song. The song is honestly about being grateful, and to just enjoy the life I have rather than scope out the things I don’t have. ‘Taste’ became a starting point for the new type of music I’ve been creating recently.”
OLY SHERMAN
2021 saw the release of Sherman’s debut album Land Of All Pretend – the culmination of a stacked period of studio sessions, touring and releases. The record demonstrated Sherman’s versatility and strength as a songwriter, while also pointing ahead to the energy he was harnessing towards future projects.
As a performer, Sherman has elevated in recent years; with multiple sold out shows at The Lansdowne, popular appearances at the Newtown Festival and supporting the likes of Slum Sociable, Alex The Astronaut and more. With over 83,000 streams to his name and a strong fanbase continuing to thrive in Australia and more recently internationally, Oly Sherman has proven his dynamism in spades.
Now, the arrival of new music from Oly Sherman marks an exciting new chapter for the artist, who will be performing such material for fans on the East Coast this August and September.
