Sydney’s Inklines returns with an emotive power-packed lead single ‘Real Life’ ahead of their third EP ‘Today’. This track showcases alternative rock nostalgia with a wistful contemporary indie edge sound. This release highlights Inklines strength and cohesion as a band that has refined their craft and mastered their sound.
‘Real Life’ will have you fully consumed in the emotion of the song. From the first word to the final chord, Inklines will have you hooked on the tug of nostalgia masterfully woven throughout the track. A clean driving beat builds momentum for one of the most cathartic choruses you’ll hear.
“I might need someone to tell me / That this is real life / Maybe I misunderstood / But I’ve made up my mind / And you were right” Inklines
Innovating upon the legendary sounds of front-runners like Silverchair, Middle Kids and The Strokes, Inklines channels these influences whilst adding smouldering vocals for an irresistible unique take on alt-rock. From this, Lachlan West (Walk The Moon, Gordi, The Vines) skillfully mixed and mastered the track, bringing it to all its glory.
“’Real Life’ was written in mid-2020 when we first started going into lockdowns, friends were losing jobs, people were freaking out and everything was just crazy. I was just trying to squeeze all the emotions I was feeling into the music, and lyrically expressing my confusion and anger at the situation. Crazy times.” Inklines
Not just a sonically rich song, but ‘Real Life’ also showcases the strength of Inklines as a band. Each member works in perfect harmony with one another, not just as members of the same band, but as friends. The accompanying music video is a testament to this, showcasing behind-the-scenes footage of the recording process. After watching it you’ll be certain of three things; they make really great music, they’re really great friends, and you’ll want to watch it again.
