TWO OF ADELAIDE’S BRIGHTEST!
In the space of just a year, Adelaide pop-punk duo Wing Defence have taken full flight.
From determining their sound on debut single ‘Stuck’, and thriving through the release of ‘Listerine’ and ‘Hindsight’, Wing Defence now embrace the beginning of a brand new chapter, unveiling the emotional new track in ‘Cuts’.
The maturity and evolution of the Wing Defence sound can be tracked over their last year of releases. The strength of the dynamic between Skye Walter and Paige Court on record and on stage has always remained strong.
Signing with European label Dock 7 and attracting acclaim from national media, Apple Music (Best of the Week, The New Rock) and triple j, as well as being 2018 SA Music Awards nominees (Best Video, Best New Artist, Best Release, Most Popular Punk Artist), Wing Defence have found their sonic identity and both the industry and audiences alike have lapped it up.
A GROWING LIVE PRESENCE
Generating hype that was quick to be delivered on at BIGSOUND, on stages alongside Polish Club, The Vanns and West Thebarton, as well as at South Australian legs of the Laneway Festival and Groovin The Moo, Wing Defence established themselves as steadfast, formidable presence on the thriving South Australian music scene, marked by a sold out hometown show of their own earlier this year.
Captivating as ever, ‘Cuts’ is an inward look at the ups and downs and unpredictability of the dating realm from Walter’s point of view, where there seem to be less and less frameworks for traditional success. Recorded at Repeater in Adelaide and mastered by Rick O’Neil (Silverchair, You Am I, Powderfinger), Wing Defence channel raw honesty on the track, in the same vein as Ruby Fields and Alex The Astronaut.
Gearing up for their last hometown show of 2019, Wing Defence will be bringing ‘Cuts’ to the surrounds of Adelaide’s Crown & Anchor hotel in September.
With their debut EP and more tour dates on the way for early 2020, this is proving to be a prime opportunity to get a taste of what a brand new decade has in store for this duo who are just getting started.
