Purée release huge new track, ‘Oh Boy’

After a huge 2024 which has seen them cemented as up-and-coming stars of the local scene, beloved Adelaide indie-rockers Purée return now with one last release before the year is out; a heartfelt track titled ‘Oh Boy’.

A song which explores the cycle of self-destruction, and falling into the trap of isolating ourselves from the people and things that are actually able to help us when we need it, ‘Oh Boy’ is a profound journey that is both personal and universal;

“‘Oh Boy’ reflects on how self destruction can ruin every good thing in your life, causing you to never feel grounded or like you have a place in this enormous world. The guilt from letting people down around you brings you to the realisation that you can’t lean on anyone to help you. You can’t rely on them to get you out of the hole you’ve put yourself in because you are so afraid of letting them down.”  PURÉE

Giving focus to the adventure towards breaking these cycles and finding contentment, ‘Oh Boy’ lights a spark in the darkness; ‘You’re not where you want to be / and I can help you beat it’. The song has a whole lotta’ heart, delivered via the band’s signature jangly guitars, dreamy synths, and gritty, heart-wrenching vocals– ultimately, the message hits home with a stirring sense of hope and persistence;

“In the end, you find yourself in a position where being helped and cared for by the people around you isn’t your decision, but it’s the beautiful reality of life and friendships. The brutal force that is ‘life’ isn’t only beating you down, but it has a grip on every single person you know. The sooner this is realised, the sooner you will be helping yourself.”  PURÉE

A labour of love and patience, ‘Oh Boy’ evolved from an idea of lead guitarist Jack’s. After some time, it was eventually crafted — alongside bandmates Mackenzie, Liam, and Matt — into the shining anthem it is today;

“‘Oh Boy’ has been kicking around in Jack's head for about 2 years. Finally we spent some time putting it all together and we were absolutely stoked with how the song turned out after jamming it a little… We needed ‘Oh Boy’ to stay jangly and light, but still carry the weight of the lyrics. We really leaned on the bridge to bring that forward and we believe it definitely hits you in the heart as we’d hoped. Overall, this song was a mission and we learned so much about ourselves, our music and our processes that we’re extremely grateful to have discovered. Not to mention, it’s a banger”  PURÉE
