Abbe May drops cheeky new alt-rock hit ‘Clam Rattler’

Perth-based artist Abbe May has today revealed her latest single, ‘Clam Rattler’. A cheeky and lighthearted alt-rock track, characterised by its hard-hitting guitar riffs and Abbe’s raspy, chanting vocals, ‘Clam Rattler’ is as witty as it is gritty.

Following her previous single ‘Big Pu$$y Energy’, which was released in May of this year, Abbe May maintains a similarly magnificent feeling of joy on ‘Clam Rattler’. She approaches her craft with a sense of flirtatious felicity, indicative of things to come on her upcoming full length record, for which this year's singles provide a taste. Commenting further on the beginnings of the new track, Abbe has said;

“I wanted to make a song that was challenging to play as a follow up to ‘Big Pu$$y Energy’, which had forced me to put more work into growing  my ability as a musician. Clam Rattler began as a joke between myself and my audience on social media. I had found an AI generated meme about a sex toy and I found it so humorous that I shared it online. This set off several weeks of Clam Rattler jokes and laughter with my audience who petitioned me to write a song with the title. At first I was horrified and refused but I realised it was a great idea and I wanted to give my audience what they want.”  ABBE MAY

Teasing her upcoming sixth studio album, Abbe has revealed that the record will be titled Wet Denim, and will see her continue the journey she has begun on its first two singles, further exploring the more playful aspects of her music, both musically and thematically.

Wet Denim is set to be a practice in rediscovering the magic of fun in art, and in not taking every aspect of the creative process too seriously;

“The whole process of writing this new album (Wet Denim) is an exercise in lightheartedness, in not taking myself too seriously while being serious about the music I am making. I have been deliberately writing not only about my life but also about what I want in my life.

‘Clam Rattler’ is actually a really sweet love song. Beautifully, in the process of writing and recording it, I fell in love with a fellow musician and have found myself living happily within the song! It's quite a lovely era and I’m excited to release ‘Clam Rattler’. I hope it brings love and fun to lots of people’s lives. It certainly did for me!”  ABBE MAY

Following the release of the track, Abbe will be launching the single with a raucous show at Mojo’s Bar in Fremantle this December, supported by Dan Howls, Elana Stone, KT Rumble, and Cowbelles.
