Acclaimed Melbourne outfit Strange Talk have today announced their forthcoming EP ‘Luna’, set for release this November. To celebrate, they’ve shared the first taste of their upcoming body of work, dropping the pulsing, moody synth-pop single ‘Vanilla Sigh’.
Following the bands previous LP ‘Speech Therapy’ in 2021 (and subsequent remix version in 2023), Strange Talks first release for 2024 paints an irresistible soundscape from the very first bar – drawing the listener in with atmospheric synths; a deep, relentless bass line and infectious, euphoric vocal melodies. Sonically, ‘Vanilla Sigh’ feels like it would fit snugly on the ‘Miami Vice’ soundtrack – reinforcing the bands thematic approach for ‘Vanilla Sigh’, treating the lyrics like a script to build the track during the songwriting process.
“Vanilla Sigh is a song where we made up a movie plot – Lyrically it’s sort of a third person narrative; we’ve always loved songs with that approach.”
STRANGE TALK
Mixed by the bands very own Gerard Sidhu (who has also worked with Los Leo, Okenyo, Islandis) with mastering by Mike Marsh (Phoenix, Chemical Brothers, Calvin Harris, Empire Of The Sun), ‘Vanilla Sigh’ is a masterclass in dynamic production – building great tension throughout the track and slowly unraveling with layers of intricate rhythms and melodies all the way until the final refrain. Lyrically the track is an anthem for those trying to find positivity in a dwindling relationship.
“On ‘Vanilla Sigh’ we worked on blending melancholic undertones with a psychedelic, 80s-inspired synth-pop vibe. The track has this bittersweet yet infectious feel to it, and is a soundtrack for anyone finding solace in faded love.” STRANGE TALK
