Joe Mungovan has just released his latest single, a summery indie-pop tune titled ‘Stay’. The song delves into the feelings of total bliss and ecstasy that come from meeting someone new and exciting, and the rush of falling completely head-over-heels for them without a word of warning.
A seductive track lined with funky guitars and a slight surf-rock undertone, this new release shows more of a dance-oriented side to Joe Mungovan than what we’ve seen before.
“The ‘Stay’ chord progression came to me late one night when I was winding things up in the studio after a writing session. I originally heard it as a slower jam and jotted down the idea for the next morning. Hearing it with fresh ears the next day it quickly took form into a full electro-dance song (new territory for me), and once Izaac, the band and I got it into the studio to record some other parts, we simmered it back down into the funk infused pop track that it is today.” JOE MUNGOVAN
Recorded between Joe Mungovan’s home studio and The Grove Studios in Somersby, ‘Stay’ was produced by Mungovan, along with Izaac Wilson (The Moving Stills, Chillinit, Sticky Fingers) who also mixed the track, and boasts mastering credits from Joe Carra (Genesis Owusu, Courtney Barnett, The Teskey Brothers).
Following the success of two releases from earlier this year, ‘Mon Cheri’ and ‘Handmidowns’, ‘Stay’ is sure to keep up the funky fun vibes we’ve come to know and love from Joe Mungovan, and to bring in the summertime heat we’ve all been waiting for.
To celebrate the new release along with the end-of-year festive season, Joe Mungovan will be playing a couple of free shows in Wollongong and Sydney.
“Come and burn some of those pre-christmas calories with us as we boogie in the Aussie summer heat for two special end of year parties! We’ll be playing a bunch of new tunes, including new singles ‘Stay’, ‘Mon Cheri’ and ‘Handmidowns’.” JOE MUNGOVAN
