Rising Mulubinba/Newcastle artist Angela Rose melds country and indie-pop together perfectly on the beautifully crafted single ‘Late Bloomer’; and will be working alongside NIDA for the track’s music video thanks to triple j Unearthed and its long-held competition with the iconic drama school.
“I was actually shocked when I received the call from triple j unearthed and had forgotten I had applied haha! But I am so grateful to be one of the winners, it has been a really amazing few months working closely with my NIDA team. We are filming in early August which is super exciting and also nerve racking because it will be a completely new experience for me! I really love the concept that we are running with and I can’t wait for it to be out in the world for all to watch.” Angela Rose
Recorded at The Grove Studios, with legendary engineer Jack Nigro (Julia Jacklin, Pacific Avenue) on mixing and Darren Ziesing (The Buoys, Rüfüs Du Sol) on mastering, ‘Late Bloomer’ builds on the mature, captivating sound that Angela has built over her career thus far. Angela’s voice demands immediate attention on the track; with melodies that hook the listener effortlessly and a strong, confident delivery that already feels like it belongs on the biggest stages in the world.
The track has a full, guitar-driven feel that builds throughout the song’s runtime, laying dynamic groundwork for Angela’s emotive performance. Lyrically, the track delves into the desire one has to take things at their own pace; carving out a life path without outside influences.
“I had just finished writing Late Bloomer before going into the recording session, and Jack was actually the first person to hear the song. He was instantly super excited about it and we collaborated together in pre-production to build the bones and main ideas for the song. I knew I wanted it to have a rockier feel and Jack did an amazing job bringing it to life!” Angela Rose
Angela has been on a roll of late, with a strong set of singles in ‘24’ and ‘Heartless’ released earlier this year, both of which receiving airplay and support from triple j, as well as triple j Unearthed rotation.
She has so far seen airplay for 4 of her 5 previously released singles on Double J, as well as continued support from community radio and digital outlets such as The Music, Pilerats and AAA Backstage. Angela is currently sitting on a healthy 100k+ streams across her discography on Spotify, and has been lucky enough to support the likes of Dulcie, Greta Stanley, Hollie Col, Maddy Jane and Imogen Clark since emerging on the live scene back in 2020.
With a RAGE premiere locked in for the upcoming ‘Late Bloomer’ music video, and a spot at this year’s Icebreaker Festival alongside Tyne-James Organ, Annie Hamilton, and Death by Denim, Angela’s rise to the top of the indie world and beyond feels increasingly imminent.
