The multi-talented Jim Alxndr, solo project of acclaimed producer James Vincent, has today announced his third and most ambitious bodies of work to date, ‘Feels Worth Living For’, set for release February 24th with lead single ‘Sticks and Stones’ out now.
Venturing into the liminal spaces of existence, this single is a cinematic soundscape, setting the stage for a powerful and moving EP.
With the ability to evoke introspective awe and wonder at the world around him, Jim Alxndr’s art form is boundless and expansive. Easily mistaken for someone with twice his years of experience, Jim’s passion for music has led him to accrue an eye-watering resume such as production credits on high-stakes international releases for Ruel, Carly Rae Jepson, Jack Garrett and Broods.
Over the course of his career, the Gold Coast born, Melbourne-via-Boston based Jim Alxndr has refined his production skillset, positioning his music to receptive fans of international trailblazers James Blake and Bon Iver and closer to home Cub Sport, E^ST and Nick Ward.
Not bound by only indie-electronica, Jim’s expansive soundscapes dabble across genres, aiming to distil the beauty of the human experience and bottle the expansive sublimity of the universe through music, making him one of Australia’s most exciting musicians, composers and beat-makers.
‘Sticks and Stones’ was sparked to life by an instrumental demo sent through Instagram from close friend and musician Andy Hopkins (Hauskey). Triggering Jim’s creativity he spent countless hours fine-tuning the production. ‘Sticks and Stones’, like the rest of the tracks in the EP, was mixed by esteemed producer Nathan Boddy (James Blake, Mura Masa, Travis Scott) with mastering by Matt Colton (Muse, James Blake, Flume).
“I really threw everything at this production-wise – there is SO MUCH happening in the chorus, especially the final one. I really wanted this song to feel like the entire earth was shattering when the chorus comes in, and kudos to Nathan Boddy – I think this one would have been a nightmare to mix and he pulled it off superbly.”Jim Alxndr
Struggling to come to terms with the success of previous single ‘Slave’, which featured guest vocals from Angie McMahon, Jim confronted the intangibility of his “success” by using the creation of ‘Sticks and Stones’ to channel his emotional conflict.
“I think achieving the dream of ‘hearing your song on the radio’ happen and having nothing in your life actually change is an incredibly difficult thing to come to terms with, so writing Sticks and Stones felt like a direct response to this experience.”Jim Alxndr
Previous releases of Jim’s have found a receptive audience in Australia, gaining widespread radio support from triple j, FBi, Triple R, 4ZZZ, 2RRR, Radio Adelaide and more. His loveable brand of production and songwriting garnered high praise from industry outlets such as Tagg, Trouble Juice, Futuremag Music, Amplify, Pilerats + More.
With tens of thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify, regular editorial playlisting, It’s clear that Jim’s only just getting started.
