Soaked in nostalgia & a lust for the carefree feeling of youth, Goldkimono has today released the follow-up single to his debut album ‘The Legend of the Goldkimono’; a record that saw him land certified GOLD status in the Netherlands, and reach #20 in the Dutch charts.
Titled ‘Melancholy Rain’, Goldkimono explores innate feelings of wanderlust & sentimentality when reminiscing on the past. Inspired by childhood roadtrips and films such as Little Miss Sunshine, ‘Melancholy Rain’ cruises through our mind and takes us back to feelings of warmth, freedom & magic.
Forging a name for from himself across The Netherlands & now Europe, Goldkimono has enjoyed broader appeal with previous release ‘Electric Swing’, which landed sync in the #1 Netflix film ‘Army of Thieves’.
He remained grounded, returning to a barn in East Germany to record ‘Melancholy Rain’, a collaborative effort with some of his closest friends. Working with platinum award winning producer Christian ‘Crada’ Kalla (Drake, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar), Goldkimono was able to hone in on the unique melodies that would elevate ‘Melancholy Rain’ to a nostalgic & inspired anthem.
“‘Melancholy Rain’ describes those moments when it just feels good to daydream about memories, even if they are bittersweet. It takes you back to those childhood being of living carefree and living in the moment. It’s about the moment that reminds us of who we once were.” Goldkimono
“‘Melancholy Rain’ was written and recorded in a barn in East Germany with some of my best friends. It’s a bit of a cruiser and we felt like it had that 90’s pop melancholy feel, because of the guitars and the harmonies.” GoldKimono
Having cut his teeth on the European festival circuit, Goldkimono has sharpened his incredible live show across Lowlands Festival, Down The Rabbit Hole & Eurosonic. Not short of accolades, industry body BMI has also crowned him with a songwriting award for previous RIAA Platinum Single ‘AOK’ in 2022.
The front-half of this year will see Goldkimono depart on a SOLD OUT club run across The Netherlands, having sold 2000+ tickets in advance of these shows. Further touring across May will include Berlin, Paris, Brussels & London, a first foray across Europe, although undoubtedly not the last.
Heartfelt & honest, ‘Melancholy Rain’ is Goldkimono at his finest; channeling nostalgia, with tender-hearted melodies & synonymous lyricism.
