Glistening with a luxurious sheen – Buttered’s latest single ‘Perfect’ will make you melt.
Built from a spontaneous decision to “make it really fast” they transcend elements across pop, soul, disco and funk while still sounding remarkably fresh.
‘Perfect’ isn’t a superficial repackaging of a hit from the 70s but rather an entirely new re-envisioning – containing the innovation, confidence and pure artistry heard in trailblazers Parcels, Harry Styles, and Silk Sonic.

The opening swells of synths curate the equivalent of soft dawn glowing through gossamer blinds in the early hours of the morning. Tender, comforting and languid, the soundscape is immediately transitioned into the toe-tapping exuberant disco beat with the classy confidence of a magician whisking the tablecloth out from under a heavily laden dinner setting.
The rest of the 3 minutes and 40 seconds are made up of a deliciously grooving beat that gallops with refined dynamism without losing an ounce of enjoyment and adventure.This sonic delight sees Buttered soar to dizzying heights and will have you hooked from start to finish.
‘Perfect’ is the flawless culmination of a strong and musically talented team. It marks a significant release for Buttered, as it is the first self-produced and engineered track by the pair. Speaking of the self-imposed 2 week isolation experience to bring the track to life, they say,
“After spending years recording in professional studio’s and working alongside industry producers we realised how much we’d learnt and decided we wanted to take things into our own hands. In an industrial estate warehouse filled with old cars, dust and tools we swapped out the tools for our small collection of instruments and recording equipment.
Everything was recorded on a laptop and we lived and breathed the first real gold coast winter in years(or so it felt) in the non insulated shed for the two weeks we were there, sleeping in the attic and living off copious amounts of caffeine and bahn mi’s.”Buttered
Elevating this strong foundation, ‘Perfect’ was mixed by a highly esteemed Australian (now based in LA) producer, mixer and engineer Tristan Hoogland (James Blake, JOJI, Flume, Hayden James, DVNA, Felivand). Rounding out this power team was Paul Blakey (Amy Shark) who mastered the track, adding the cherry on top of the sonic cake.
Having only formed in 2019 they have already made a solid impact on the Australian music scene. Their debut singles, ‘Chasing Feelings’ and ‘Brown Shoes’ were released mid 2020 and have received collectively over 750k streams on Spotify with over 21k monthly listeners.
Their latest release ‘Reborn’ collected multiple spins on the national youth broadcaster triple j,Spotify official editorial playlists, national community radio play and rave reviews from triple j Unearthed presenters.
Buttered is made up of Scott Dalton and Jackson James Smith and a whole lot of butter-blonde hair. This is only the beginning of the journey for Buttered, as their musical adventure is an adaptation of eight years of friendship between the pair. This strength of friendship, familiarity and trust can be heard in the seamless synchronicity and creative energy in their songs.
This year the band went from strength to strength, massively leveling up their career, performing at major Gold Coast and Brisbane festivals such as Mojave Haze, Homecoming, Hidden Lanes and Valley Fiesta. They also supported nationally recognised bands Wanderers at SolBar in Maroochydore, Peach Fur at Miami Marketta and international act Muroki in Brisbane on his first overseas tour.
In early 2022 Buttered won the Bluesfest Busking Competition at the Byron Beach Hotel which secured them a spot on the main stage at Bluesfest Byron Bay 2022 and also for 2023.
