Fox DeRoche releases dynamic debut EP, ROUND-A-BOUT

Delivering music with a clear vision for its execution in mind, Melbourne’s Fox DeRoche presents his debut EP project, ROUND-A-BOUT. A cohesive and dynamic collection of indie-pop music that brings together the artist’s love for myriad styles and sonic textures, the ROUND-A-BOUT EP is Fox DeRoche in his purest form.

Featuring singles ‘TAP OUT’ and ‘SOC PUPPET’, the record is packed with insatiable music that is as equally primed for the dancefloor, as it is for any music lover’s favourite music set up. The sounds of the EP come beautifully produced by Gerard Sidhu (Strange Talk) – the result of a partnership with DeRoche that has been flourishing in recent years.

The music of ROUND-A-BOUT represents different points in Fox DeRoche’s life and ties in gorgeously with his range of influences: from ‘70s disco (‘TAP OUT’) through to more contemporary influences like Joji (‘HIGH’), which plays more in the electronic space.

Songs like ‘CEILING BUG’ and title track ‘ROUND-A-BOUT’ are strong EP cuts, demonstrating Fox DeRoche’s flourishing artistry and a focus on clearly defined sonic textures and moreover, the marriage of them in a striking way. Balancing the emotional depth of EP moments like ‘HIGH’ and ‘SOC PUPPET’, these are songs that can stand strong on their own but when put in the mix with the other EP cuts, simply add colour to an already vibrant Fox DeRoche self-portrait.

The music is intensely personal for DeRoche, whose process has always had a prominent thread of intimacy featured throughout. Here, music became therapeutic as a way to navigate a period of rebuilding after a breakup – an avenue for him to find a calm and sense of grounding once more.

“Although not all the songs follow the exact storyline of this event, all of them pay homage to it in some way. All of these songs started in my bedroom studio: starting with a laptop, an interface, a midi controller and a couple of instruments.

I have been musically inclined my whole life, learning different instruments throughout the years so all of the instrumentation on the tracks is played by myself. As the E.P really started taking shape, it was then that I got in contact with Gerard Sidhu. After demos of all the songs had been made, production and mixing was handed over to him. From there we booked studio time, recorded grand piano and brought in Felix Bloxsom to overdub the drums. After this we re-recorded vocals at Gerard’s studio and a couple of bass lines. Finishing off with a final mix from Gerard and mastering by Dave Cooley.”
