The Paddy Cakes return with infectious indie-rock tune ‘Fuckups’

Gippsland boys The Paddy Cakes are back in 2022 with their latest bona fide indie-rock track; it was produced and mixed by Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy) and mastered by Andrew Edgson (Matt Corby, The Kite String Tangle).‘Fuckups’ is comparable to long-time pioneers in that indie-rock sound from Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks and The Wombats, but with an Australian edge that keeps it unique and distinct to them.

“Making this song was such a fun process! Definitely the most fun we’ve had together as a band. When Dalton came to us with this song written we knew it was going to be a fun track. Then getting into the studio with Oscar Dawson it really started to blossom into something else despite having to record it over multiple sessions over Victoria’s covid lockdowns. We’re stoked with how it turned out and hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.”

It’s been a big few years for The Paddy Cakes from securing some large festival shows, to supporting Amyl and the Sniffers on their regional tour, and their latest feel good tune celebrates going out & having fun after enduring harsh Victorian lockdowns for the past 2 years.

Filmed at various locations around their hometown in Gippsland, the vibe of the video serves as a cheeky and fun reminder of life post lockdown. The band worked with acclaimed director and videographer Ben Schoonderbeek who has shot videos for Lazy Sidekick, Captives, Great Gable live at The Wrangler studios, Mild Manic & Eileen Grace.

“The music video suits this song perfectly. Shooting it with Ben Schoonderbeek was a breeze, even through the 34 degree temperature. It’s a wonder the whole thing isn’t footage of us drinking at the pub! We wanted the clip to match the song and represent us as “Fuckups” that don’t really want to do much else than spend our money at a pub and take the piss out of each other.”

The Paddy Cakes are quickly forging a name for themselves with their fast paced high energy live shows, they have previously supported Amyl and the Sniffers and Ben Lee. They released their debut EP ‘Broken At Best’ in 2019, and following that release they were made Triple j Unearthed Spotlight Artist in 2019. The band have also shared the stage with the likes of Ball Park Music and The Jungle Giants.
