GULLY DAYS spark inspiration with raw indie-rock track ‘ON FIRE’

Landing praise from Monster ChildrenLife Without Andy, MTV Australia & more, Gully Days have carved out a devout following for themselves in the 12 months that they’ve been riffin’. From raucous self-promoted shows at their local bowlo’s, to a headline SOLD OUT performance at Oxford Art Factory, the band have been riding a wave that continues to pick up swell every second.

More refined and self-assured than ever, Gully Days are now ecstatic to release their first single of 2022, ‘On Fire’. Followed by a career defining support slot for legendary DZ Deathrays at Sydney’s Factory Theater on Saturday 12th March as part of their Positive Rising Part 2 Tour.

The formative effort to find their sound has worked wonders, with Gully Days combining the heavier punk-rock influenced riffs of guitarist Luke Morris with the smoother, drifting vocals of singer Ethan Eshuys to take listeners on a journey –  working through the sounds & feelings of the Sydney beach suburbs that they grew up running amuck around.

‘On Fire’ sees the band explore the defiant lyricism & good-vibes that has made them such a fan favorite across NSW. Hook-laden vocal melodies combine with a cruising rhythm section performance from drummer Lewis Kennedy & bassist Holden Fadjukov to drive home emotionally raw sonics that continue to win hearts across Australia. Sonically, the track is exceptional. Combining the expert influences from the production and mix by Jack Nigro (Pacific Avenue, The Terrys, Surf Trash) and mastering by Darren Ziesing (Lime Cordiale, Flight Facilities), the result is a sonically refined and exceptional track.

“Naturally all of us have different musical backgrounds, Lewis being a jazz drummer, Luke on guitar was into punk and Ethan grew up singing softer pop. The last couple of years has really been us constantly refining our sound and getting a feel for each other musically.”  Gully Days

“Ethan and Luke get together and exchange ideas mainly on some chords and vocal melodies, then jam on it and write some lyrics from there. Once they’re happy, they’ll bring it back to the rest of the band to add their own musical character to the song. A good song for us is one in which we can we can imagine hundreds of fans head banging in sync with Lewis’s back-beat, screaming the lyrics as something they can relate to” Gully Days

Accompanying ‘On Fire’Gully Days have teamed up with Sydney filmmaker Chris Zagas to showcase their infectious performance and good natures, surrounded by the backdrop of Scheyville National Park.

Packing up a heaving Mitsubishi Pajero, the band headed deep into the bush for a cruise down the dirt track and into a secluded opening, where they set up and jammed ‘On Fire’ for an audience of birds, insects and the occasional bush walker. In Gully Days tradition, the music video showcases the band at their most raw & genuine, making the most of any situation and having a blast.

“We wanted to run with a simple idea that we knew we could really nail. We wanted it to show us as we are naturally and we felt that is what is easy to connect with. In between many laughs,  and a few difficult 500 meter voyages to set up, carrying oversized luggage including kick drums and guitar amps, off road driving in Lewis’s infamous Mitsubishi Pajero, we managed to get the clips we wanted of the boys out in the bush slamming their instruments and mucking around.” Gully Days
