Lucas Laufen releases latest single, ‘In Cologne’ from forthcoming album ‘Weathering’

Serene acoustic beauty combined with undulating swells of unease and ambiguity sees a masterful combination of neoclassical and folk influences in ‘In Cologne’. Hauntingly beautiful, Lucas Laufen’s music is a form of therapy.

Lush instrumentation coalesces around Lucas’s shimmering falsetto – a cascade of pure beauty, powerfully traversing the chasm of loss and joy simultaneously.

While listening to ‘In Cologne’ the world around you will come to a stand still. Your only tether to reality being Lucas’s voice as he sheppards your heart through the chasms and peaks of your internal soulscape. The result is a raw and stripped back essence revealing the inner subtleties of what it means to be human. Pulling aural influences from to The Middle East, Angus and Julia Stone and Hollow Coves, Lucas Laufen’s creativity and reach is expansive.

‘In Cologne’ was written a few days after lockdowns were imposed in Germany in winter 2020. Touring at the time, Lucas was able to play one last show in Cologne before the world was put on pause. “The song describes the feeling through the city as I walked around in the early evening. I was able to get into The Dom and there was no one around. A giant empty church, cemetery, bars. I arrived at the venue and the staff were getting calls during my show from artists and promoters canceling and we all sat down together at the end, had a drink and toasted to whatever was about to come next.” Lucas Laufen

Having grown up in Port Lincoln, a small fishing town in Australia, Lucas Laufen was drawn to the creative opportunity found in Berlin. Having lived there for the past 4 years, Lucas has proven himself a dedicated and passionate musician.

With his serene acoustic beauty he has toured a slew of European shows, playing support for notable artists such as Hollow Coves, Julia Jacklin, Paul Dempsey, and Billie Marten.

The past few years have seen Lucas direct his energies towards the studio, collaborating with Grammy award-winning producer Antonio Pulli to produce his forthcoming sophomore album ‘Weathering’. Teaming up once again with Embassy of Music, he will release the body of work over 2021 and 2022, accompanied by a fresh swathe of shows across Australia and Europe.

‘In Cologne’ is pulled from his forthcoming Album Weathering – a collection of songs mapping Lucas’s experience of living in Europe over the last 4 years.

Speaking of his time abroad, he says “Above anything, music helps me see the beauty in life and the beauty in people too. Weathering is about this realization and change for me. Noticing the beauty in the seemingly bad weather. Stories along the way and the people who helped me see this.” Lucas Laufen
