Highline tug at your heartstrings with gorgeous melancholy in ‘Enough For You and Me’. The up-and-comers make you yearn for those rare moments that painfully pierce the heart at the time, but ultimately let you know you’re truly, fully alive. Somehow, Highline has encapsulated this near impossible feeling to describe making for a memorable listen.
As always, Highline brings together the best of indie-rock and brit-pop. The result? Refined driving drums, soundscape synths, exquisite dreamy guitar riffs that arabesque around warm, familiar vocals commanding your full attention for every second of the track.
After bursting onto the scene in 2019, Highline have solidified their upwards trajectory with an impressive resume in that time. From sold out headline shows at The Lansdowne, Mary’s Underground, The Vanguard, and Oxford Art Factory to over 500,000 Spotify Streams it’s clear that Highline are doing something very, very right.
Working with Jack Nigro (Middle Kids, DMA’s, Skeggs) at The Grove Studios, the influence is tangible. Speaking of their time recording, “Our time at the Grove with Jack Nigro during lockdown was really special. We love going there and making music with Jack and his input throughout the recording process really helped mould EFYAM into something we’re truly proud of.”

As the 4-piece band from Sydney navigates the transition from teenagehood to adulthood, their lyricism has taken on a nuanced edge of loss and longing. Before, singing of young love and heartbreak, they now tackle the infinitely more subtle dynamics of evolving friendships. Pulling influence from iconic front-runners like The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, DMA’s and The Stone Roses, Highline interprets these powerful influences into their very own blend of indie alt-rock, in an utterly commanding way.
“The song is about leaning on your friends to feel better about the situation you’re in. It’s both a celebration of friendship and the good things it can do for you but it is also painting an unhealthy, dependent relationship with someone. Asking if the person is proud of where they are in life etc. is just bringing them down to your level. A really shallow connection where all you want them to do is “ease” you from your noise/reality you’re not happy in. It’s a confession to using friends/going out as an escape to run and hide from your problems.”

Ultimately your heart will be thanking you for this listen: it’s cathartic and passionate, inspiring and energising all at once. It’s elusive and complex to describe, but somehow Highline marry the unrestrained and blazing fire of youth with the cool temperance of adulthood.
