Melbourne dream-pop duo Floozy share new single ‘Sand Dunes’

Arriving as your fave new summer jam, ‘Sand Dunes’ marks the introduction of Melbourne indie, dream-pop duo Floozy. Driven by lofty production, gorgeous vocals and clever pop arrangements, ‘Sand Dunes’ is full of charm and personality for the pair’s debut release.

The new project for musicians Leigh Dallimore and Andréa Hajenian, Floozy has become a new outlet for expression for both songwriters, who have been writing and performing independently of each other for years. Here, they have engaged a new spark that has illuminated their recent sessions, with ‘Sand Dunes’ being the first offering of what’s set to be a productive year ahead.

Recorded at Floozy’s studio in Fitzroy, ‘Sand Dunes’ saw the duo link up with Xavier Dunn (Jack River, CXLOE) on co-production, with award winning engineer Chris Collins (Gang of Youths, MAY-A) and George Georgiadis (Yorke, Tyne-James Organ) on mixing and mastering.

Having formed Floozy two years ago, Dallimore and Hajenian took their time in feeling out what would become their central sound. Knowing that they wanted to spread brightness and fun with their music, Floozy poured their time and energy into building a soundscape bolstered by synths and programming that would elevate their already well-honed senses of musicianship. And from there, ‘Sand Dunes’ was born.

“‘Sand Dunes’ started with a cruisy beat one afternoon in our little bedroom studio in Fitzroy. After passing instruments back and forward between us for a while, a flowy bassline got us really excited. We followed the scent with some beautiful keys and synth textures. We really wanted to let the song tell us its story.

There was this hypnotic warmth and nostalgia that gave us a little window away from our hectic, modern lives. COVID Lockdowns and just the struggles of being an adult had us missing those summer road trips and sunburned nights when we were kids with not a worry in the world. This song was written out of a new appreciation and longing for simpler times; laying in the sand dunes, watching the clouds drift by.”
