Indie rock group STAPLETON unveil captivating EP, Try To Keep In Touch, featuring new single ‘Running Blind’

Since their formation in early 2020, Perth’s STAPLETON have fast become a favourite fixture within their local industry. Weaving catchy melodies with smart and rich lyricism, the four piece are instantly engaging on record and as live performers, STAPLETON’s charm comes through with ease.

A string of successful releases including ‘Colour In Your Cheeks’‘Wishful Thinking’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Need You’ have fleshed out what has become the debut studio EP from the group – the summer ready six-track, Try To Keep In Touch.

Released at the end of what’s been a fruitful year for the band, Try To Keep In Touch is STAPLETON in a nutshell: vibrant, captivating and dynamic.

In a similar vein to bands like Ball Park Music and Big Scary and, to an international extent artists like Local Natives and The Drums, much of STAPLETON’s appeal is rooted in their natural ability to envelop their listener in an energetic and unique soundscape. The newest single to be lifted from Try To KeepIn Touch – ‘Running Blind’ – is a perfect example of how STAPLETON knows how to wrangle a good balance of light and dark tones.

Vocalist and songwriter Jon Stapleton sings and projects from the heart; vocally, he performs with rich depth and as a writer, Stapleton presents as a natural storyteller.

Recorded across a number of locations including the WAAPA Commercial StudioVision StudiosPoons Head Studio in Fremantle, and each of the band members’ houses, Try To Stay In Touch is a record that tracks the band’s growth as individuals and as a group.

About ‘Running Blind’ and where it sits on the wider EP, STAPLETON describe their process of following different influences to make their sonic identity click.

“We’ve tried to explore a whole bunch of sides of the indie rock coin on this record. There’s heavy moments, poppy moments, psychedelic moments and a good healthy serving of riff action. Most of the tracks are a lot heavier and faster than our earlier releases as well and are a bunch of fun to play live.”

“For the most part the EP explores the moments of holding and letting go that we’ve experienced in our 20s so far. Growing up and becoming your own person comes with having to let some friendships and relationships go and all these little choices become a big part of who you are. To sum it up, Try to Keep in Touch is a collection of stories about finding our way these last couple of years and the whole spectrum of emotions and experiences that came with it.”
