Lucid Hoops returns today with a dark and addictive new single ‘I Feel Used’. Marked by gritty guitars, penetrative drums and striking vocals from Ash, ‘I Feel Used’ is a captivating and punchy alt-rock gem.
Once again teaming up with producer Jack Donehue at Nauti Studios in Sydney, ‘I Feel Used’ is the follow up to the grunge vibes of ‘Kinder Company’ released earlier this year.
“We’ve been holding this track close to our chests for a long time now, there are actual snippets of us first rehearsing the track from over a year ago sprinkled throughout the recording reminiscing the song’s first moments.” Lucid Hoops
Sonically, ‘I Feel Used’ moves between shades of Paramore and Teenage Joans, once again demonstrating their creative energy and solid dynamic as a young 4 piece band. The track was written during the first lockdown in Sydney in 2020.
“This song was a way to release all of our frustrations about being a performing band unable to do what we love. As soon as we could jump in a room and start playing as a band again the song just happened. We jammed, reworked and chopped up the song until we were satisfied with the organised mess that was left behind. The recording process was experimental and chaotic, giving us all the opportunity to take our parts further creatively.”

Lucid Hoops’ blistering alt-rock songs address everything from mental health, societal issues and relationships whilst sharing their honest observations from their life.
“I Feel Used is about chasing and craving approval from people who might view you as expendable in their roster of relationships. The song also stems from the universal fear of being chewed up and spat out and the imbalance of power in a relationship. This feeling of powerlessness grows and all you want is attention and recognition, but these needs aren’t being met which can lead to paranoia. I Feel Used explores coming to terms with being manipulated or being stuck in a vicious cycle while owning the situation with honesty.”
