Cookin’ On 3 Burners return with dynamic single ‘The World Is Cold’, ft. Jane Tyrrell & Mantra

Cookin’ On 3 Burners have returned with the perfect salve for what has felt like a long and cold winter, cracking things open with their first new music for 2021.

The group’s new single ‘The World Is Cold’ drops at the most perfect of times: we’re all looking to be wrapped up in music that propels us forward and shines with optimism right now… Cookin’ On 3 Burners are here to deliver.

Continuing their stellar run of collaborations, the group tapped two of Melbourne’s finest in rapper Mantra and vocalist Jane Tyrrell for ‘The World Is Cold’. The end result is a dynamic back and forth between the guest artists: Mantra, whose rhymes spit truths still very relevant to today’s climate, and Jane, whose trademark soulful vocals blend beautifully to provide extra depth and richness.

The release of ‘The World Is Cold’ comes coupled with an instrumental B-side, a soul-funk interpolation of the 1999 Mos Def classic, ‘Ms. Fat Booty’ – an addictive rework that’ll grab the attention of any hip hop, funk or soul music fan.

Bringing ‘The World Is Cold’ together during what turned out to be the longest break in touring and recording in Cookin’ On 3 Burners’ 24 year history, this release feels even more significant. Producing music with soul and genuine messaging during a time where so much feels influx, Cookin’ On 3 Burners knew their first release for the decade had something special on their hands.

“Through bushfires and a global pandemic, this new 45 has been a long time coming. We are in love with the lyrical heat that this collab with Mantra and Jane Tyrrell has brought to our sound. Excited to bring this smoking new Burners 7 inch vinyl to the people.”

Recorded and produced by the group (Jake Mason, Dan West, Ivan Khatchoyan) themselves in Melbourne, and mastered by Lachlan Carrick (Gotye, A.B. Original), ‘The World Is Cold’ and the rework of ‘Ms. Fat Booty’ serves as a reminder of the funky fire that Cookin’ On 3 Burners are able to capture in their Soul Messin’ Studios. Their creative partnership has always been on point and, moving forward into 2022, their hunger for new music and collaborations is at a particular peak.

“We keep it all live and full of vibe in the studio. The Cookin’ sound is about the collective funky web and embracing the gaps between the notes. …It’s all real instruments played by people, recorded on ancient equipment and then given a buff for 2021!”

Cookin’ On 3 Burners are easily one of Australian soul music’s most prolific names. World renowned for an exhilarating live show, the group has toured extensively throughout Japan, the U.K., Europe and beyond. The ARIA-nominated trio gained global recognition due to their collaboration with French DJ Kungs‘This Girl’, which also featured Melbourne’s Queen of Soul, Kylie Auldist.

The single earned Cookin’ On 3 Burners the lucrative Billion Stream APRA Award, but since then, they haven’t slowed down; continuing to write, record and release new music to build upon their respected body of work.
