Firmly establishing themselves as a formidable force in surf-rock music out on the West Coast, Perth’s Pretty Ugly’s return with their new release for 2021, ‘Your Shade’. This new single comes off the back of their critically acclaimed ‘Party Friends’ EP.
“‘Your Shade’ is written around the topic of not letting other people’s negativity get you down, which you can be faced with in everyday places whether that be out somewhere or at work. ‘’Your Shade won’t be finding me, not today there’s no way” directly relates to this. It’s also currently the shortest track we have written and is one of the most fun to play live.” Pretty Uglys
Writing and recording the track out of Perth’s Sumo Studios with Tristan Sturmer, and mastering done by George Georgiadis at Little Wing Sound, ‘Your Shade’ is delivered with passion and conviction by lead singer Jaxon Alp with Jean-Luc Mason on Bass, and Jack Mitchell pulling it together on drums.
“Your Shade” was a track that started as a vocal melody and chorus idea which Jaxon was messing with and recorded onto his phone though the garageband app. Evolving from there into jam sessions the boys came up with the bridge section, lyrics were completed and the funky intro drum beat was created. This gave birth to the shortest yet potentially catchiest uglys song to date.”
