It has been a big year for Sydney duo Forces & Fury. Further navigating and developing sound within a flurry of electronic and alternative indie creative influences, Kat Ayala and Astrid Holz have created a sound completely their own. Introducing listeners to their music with two releases so far in 2019 in ‘Watch It Burn’ and ‘Stormy Weather’, Forces & Fury now deal a strong third single to take out the year in ‘My Affliction’.
Channeling broodiness in with some expertly crafted and executed instrumentation, ‘My Affliction’ balances heaviness in music with a delicate flair in the vocals. Featuring Hunter Adams on vocals, Forces & Fury introduce another personality to the mix, complementing their very individualistic style to a tee. “Hunter embraced the song in such a short amount of time, and added her own beautiful fragility to it. She delivered her vocals so honestly and quickly, it blew us away. The whole experience of working with Hunter was cathartic for all of us in different ways, and we already have plans to work on more songs together in the future.” Forces & Fury
The song itself, centred around a love gone bad, draws darker tones in with a stunning live sound in the percussion and rhythmic elements that Forces & Fury have done so well in the past. Bringing Adams into the fold also meant that the vocalist had her own personal attachment to the project formed in time.
“I went through very intense and complex breakup a year ago and, as it often is with break ups, there were a lot of things that went unsaid. The chorus that Forces & Fury had written guided a lot of the rest of the writing for me. The song is about the aftermath of a relationship and the struggle of saddling the line between loving and loathing someone. That’s the best way I can explain it.” Hunter Adams

“Some dark, writhing rock from F&F.”
Triple J, Declan Byrne
“Their debut single is the warbly, transcendental ‘Stormy Weather’… the track simmers in a bold and brooding mystique, searing electric guitars building a razor-sharp base.”
