Driven by inescapable harmony and melody, the new single from Sydney’s Mesmeriser – ‘Don’t Complicate It’ – sees the trio operating at their dynamic best.
Following on from the release of their 2017 debut EP These Few Hours and the captivating single ‘Hello Sunday Morning’, the band has been meticulously building on an already strong sound and live presence, one they’re kicking into higher gear this October during the course of a new east coast tour.
“It is the emergence from a younger self into a world that has seen it all before.”
“I know you’re jaded,” vocalist Myles Fischer drawls on the track, as an indie rock arrangement swirls and punches, in a similar vein to Parcels and Catfish and The Bottlemen. A song that has been made to encourage the listener to shed the pressures and expectations put on us by the parents, teachers and those authority figures, ‘Don’t Complicate it’ has its message in the title.
“It is the emergence from a younger self into a world that has seen it all before. We were trying to deal with the fact that generations before us had ‘done and seen it all’ and people our age were becoming increasingly jaded from a multitude of factors (housing, climate change etc). It’s a call for young people to shed the weight of generations before them, be who they need to be and don’t complicate it.” Mesmeriser
It’s a call for young people to shed the weight of generations before them, be who they need to be and don’t complicate it.”
Performing together since 2013, the band have been thriving in recent years, cutting their teeth as live performers both at home and internationally, bringing their music to venues in London, Budapest, Germany and across Spain.
Enticed by the freedom that has come with creating loose, dream-pop soundscapes, Mesmeriser explored more DIY indie rock sounds with These Few Hours, before further navigating that same territory with their current output.
Working on ‘Don’t Complicate It’ with frequent collaborator Oscar Sharah (Mel Blue, Lola Scott) out of Yap Yap Studios and having the classic Steve Smart (Tash Sultana, Cub Sport) touch on mastering, Mesmeriser brought their new single to life with the best crew possible.
