BATZ are back, baby.
The Melbourne indie five-piece, who have fast been earning a reputation as one of the inner-north’s finest and rowdiest, return with a new single in ‘Wizard’, another example of the band’s irresistible punk-tinged charm.
In short, the band is the badass kid at the back of the class you’ve always had a hankering to hang with; led by Chrissy Aubry, BATZ take their audience on a journey into a murky, trouble-making environment that has inhibitions left at the door.
‘Wizard’ is the perfect snapshot of the type of fun BATZ have brought to each release and each live show. There are hints of Karen O in Aubry’s vocals, as she sings with attitude over dance-able indie melodies with attitude punching each note. For this release, BATZ worked once more with Alex Markwell (The Delta Riggs) to add his production flair, a collaborative relationship that has only strengthened over time.
“‘Wizard’ felt like the right kind of song for BATZ, at the right time. We are known for our frantic goth/punk side but we wanted to show that we are versatile in our sound. Evolving. ‘Wizard’ gives a nod to the classic indie period, it’s a fun dancey track. It’s about a dream I had about being a wizard and coming from another planet, landing on Earth at some crazy house party. It’s all vibes. Good vibes.”
Distilled Anarchy On Tour
Already, BATZ have struck a chord with live crowds, having supported the likes of KINGSWOOD,Sløtface and LA Witch off the back of their debut EP Night Terrors. Combining elements of goth, punk, psych and indie in the band’s early days made BATZ a name to watch but now as they power through 2019 with ‘Wizard’ as their first release for the year, the Melbourne group demonstrates versatility and new dynamism.
With ‘Wizard’ set to captivate, BATZ anticipate a busy second half of 2019.
