Ghanaian-Australian artist Yawdoesitall has returned with his second release for 2025, teaming up with frequent collaborator Tawanda for the smooth, dynamic single ‘MALIBU’.
‘Malibu’ is the latest taste from Yaw’s upcoming 8-track EP ‘Vendetta’, announced today along with the single and set for release in September this year.
Over the last few years, the multi-faceted songwriter, producer and performer has continued to hit his stride – blending different sonic flavours and seamlessly incorporating his Ghanaian musical heritage with cutting edge western influences.
His latest offering is the perfect example of his unique sound, with textured, pulsing beats and an endlessly expressive flow from Yaw.
Balancing Yaw’s voice perfectly on the track is Tawanda – who provides a silky, infectious hook for the track. Tawanda has been with Yaw every step of the way throughout his career – previously appearing on ‘LIGHTS’ from Yaw’s critically acclaimed 2022 EP ‘LIFE I CHOSE’, as well as the hard-hitting 2023 single ‘DOOFENSHMIRTZ’ along with DEVAURA.
Yaw comments that the track was originally produced “just for fun”, but as the pair started to work together “it just clicked and somehow turned out magical.”
Lyrically the track reflects on the different stages of a relationship, weaving in different perspectives from Yaw’s own personal experiences.
“The song talks about the tug and pull of love as it navigates through the ups and downs of a relationship. In the first verse the cycle of love continues with both parties having a lot to lose. The second verse looks at how the relationship starts to get into trouble.”YAWDOESITALL
2025 has been a big year for Yawdoesitall already – with appearances at Laneway Festival, a headline slot at Butter for Vivid and a finalist spot for this year’s APRA/AMCOS Professional Development Award.
These achievements add to a long list of career accomplishments for Yaw, who has managed to play at festivals such as BIGSOUND and SXSW; performed on Triple J’s Bars of Steel; toured with the likes of Baker Boy, Red Veil (US), JK-47, Pookie & Devaura; and even featured on a track with US rap-legend Rick Ross with ‘SAINTS’ in 2024.
