It’s a good time to be a Goon Gremlin!
The Newcastle indie group, who have been making an impact this year with tracks ‘Jesus Was A Goon Sack’ and ‘Baby Can’t Bite’, have announced the release of their debut EP, beautifully titled Tell Your Friends You Love Them.
A record that captures the band’s bright and warm energy, while also serving up a number of tunes to get listeners through the oncoming summer, Tell Your Friends You Love Them is a walkthrough of the band’s honest brand of storytelling and musicality.
From it, Goon Gremlins share a new single in ‘Nostalgia’ – a fitting title for a track that journeys themes of growing up, and the memories we carry with us as we move into different phases of our lives. Recorded at Hazy Cosmic Jive Studios with producer Gareth Hudson, ‘Nostalgia’ wound up inspiring the EP title, as the band took a deep dive into the personal influences that were driving their creative sessions.
“‘Nostalgia’ captures the feelings of youth and the fullness of life. It’s about the experiences of growing up in an Australian beach town at the age where your only option was to steal your parents’ alcohol to go dancing into the night. It’s what the EP title was inspired by as this song is about looking back on all the love and golden memories shared with my friends and how it shaped me into the person I am today.”
GOON GREMLINS, ANGELINA BURKE
Goon Gremlins’ journey to date has seen them emerge as one of Newcastle’s most exciting new names. Making their debut in 2022 with the track ‘Dumb’, the group made quick work in generating momentum for themselves as a dynamic live act who could match the energy they bring to the recording studio.
Gaining more traction in 2024 with ‘Jesus Was A Goon Sack’ and the more recent single ‘Baby Can’t Bite’, Goon Gremlins have been going from strength to strength, landing on more radars around the country. The band have seen airtime on triple J, triple J Unearthed, FBi, 2SER and Three D radio, and were the 14th most played track on 4ZZZ during August.
Racking up impressive performances at events like SpringFest and The Gum Ball Festival, as well as supporting notable names including Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Buoys and Pacific Avenue, Goon Gremlins are looking forward to continuing to build and expand their reach with the Tell Your Friends You Love Them EP.
