Illawarra’s Daisy Pring – an up-and-coming popstar who has previously performed at Qudos Bank Arena at the remarkable age of 15 – has today unveiled her debut EP, Treading Water.
Turning up the heat after a string of gorgeous singles, Daisy now introduces listeners to her first ever major project, which covers a series of personal moments and tales revolving around an earth-shaking relationship breakdown.
“Treading Water is a body of work telling the story of how I navigated my way through a devastating breakup. It touches on themes of desperation, longing, obsession, hopelessness, delusion and loss of self worth… I wanted the project to feel as authentic as possible and a journal of my real feelings.” DAISY PRING
A Moment of Healing
In healing, learning, and growing through the heartbreak, Daisy has emerged on the other side with a remarkable arrangement of tracks, and is ready for audiences to connect with each of them just as much as she has.
Working with producer and long-time collaborator Chelsea Warner (Amelia Moore, Ūla, Liyah Knight, Kwame, Tasman Keith) on the record, it then received mixing from Jesse Deskovic (Budjerah, Genesis Owusu, Haiku Hands) and mastering from Matt Fioravanti (Tasman Keith, Kwame, Agung Mango). On the long but cathartic process of building up her EP, Daisy said:
“The process of creating this EP spanned over about a year of sessions and writing. I’ve been doing regular sessions with Chelsea since 2021… after releasing 2 singles in 2022, I was ready to start creating a body of work. After going through a painful breakup in 2022, I knew this would be a lot of the inspiration for writing the EP. Chelsea and I wanted to come up with a track for each of the many emotions that can be felt during a breakup.”
Opening the record with recently released single ‘31st of June’, on which Daisy expresses feelings of resignation in the journey of getting over the relationship, ultimately deciding that she must be fated to feel this way forever.
Following this is ‘Forever Girl’, on which Daisy faces the difficult truth that despite a whole lot of hurt and betrayal, the love she had for her ex partner isn’t necessarily dead; ‘You don’t need to give the world / You can give me half my worth / You just gotta say the word’.

Elsewhere, ‘Anaesthesia’ explores escapism, and the desire to be mentally and emotionally removed from reality so as to avoid the pain of a doomed love. The EP’s title track ‘Treading Water’ was written the day Daisy was involved in an accident on her way to the studio, with the crash so bad it resulted in her car being completely written off.
In the moment of crisis, Daisy reflects on her instinct to turn to the one person she knew she shouldn’t reach out to: “After feeling so good for a long time, as soon as this happened all I wanted to do is call this person. This track was driven from feeling as though you have made no progress. But I’ve learnt that healing isn’t linear.”
‘Nerve’, meanwhile, holds a double meaning for Daisy, portraying feelings of anxiety which arise in both her art as well as romantic life:
“It was initially written about my relationship with the music industry and the challenges I’ve faced in not feeling good enough compared to my peers. Within the EP context I like that the track can also be interpreted as the feelings of possibility and fear felt when meeting someone new, while you are still processing a heartbreak.”
To welcome her debut body of work, Daisy will be performing an EP launch show at La La La’s Wollongong on May 23rd, supported by Amali Dimond, Meadowhip, and Jude2k, with a DJ set from Groove Society to close the night!
