Newcastle artist Chloe Gill is making it clear that 2025 belongs to her.

With the release of her powerful new single ‘Pushing Punishment’, Gill continues to cement her place as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Australian music. Following January’s ‘Down The Drain’, this latest offering marks another confident step toward her debut album I Have A Habit of Dreaming, due March 12.

A Song About Becoming

Created alongside collaborator Gareth Hudson (Buddy Knox, Hazy Cosmic Jive Studios), ‘Pushing Punishment’ came together swiftly once its emotional foundation was laid. The result is a sweeping, dynamic anthem that showcases Gill’s unshakeable strengths as both songwriter and vocalist.

“This song feels like me becoming me,” Gill explains. “Growing into my adult self… accepting my neurodivergence and my personality… learning to ‘fill my cup’ first.”

That theme of self-acceptance and emotional maturity pulses throughout the track. It’s introspective without being insular; expansive without losing intimacy. Gill draws inspiration from artists like Bon Iver, Sharon Van Etten and Gang Of Youths; musicians known for their emotional intelligence and layered storytelling.

“I wanted this track to build dynamically and through instrumentation and achieve what that album makes me feel,” she says.

The result is a song that moves through tension and release: swelling strings, driving percussion and soaring choruses that mirror the inner journey she describes. It’s deeply personal, yet widely relatable.

A Debut Album Building Momentum

‘Pushing Punishment’ will feature on I Have A Habit of Dreaming, Gill’s forthcoming debut album. Following singles including ‘Why?’, ‘Something In The Winter’, and ‘Over Me’, the project reveals an artist who understands the power of narrative cohesion.

The music released so far has earned strong support across triple j, ABC Radio, FBi Radio and the Triple M network. For independent Australian artists, that kind of cross-network traction is significant. It speaks not only to the quality of the music, but also to strategic positioning within the broader Australian music ecosystem.

As live music continues to thrive across the East Coast, Gill’s performance résumé is equally impressive. She has shared stages with Sam Fischer, Kate Ceberano, Chris Lanzon and Tori Forsyth, while steadily building her own headline presence.

For Chloe Gill, ‘Pushing Punishment’ is both a personal milestone and a public declaration: she’s stepping fully into herself as an artist.

For Australian music fans, it’s another reminder of the depth and diversity thriving across the country.

And for industry professionals watching closely, it’s proof that when talent, timing and thoughtful Australian music PR align, the results resonate far beyond a single release cycle.
