Forever finding new and innovative ways to connect music with the community that has supported and empowered him from the beginning, ZIGGY ALBERTS announces the first release of his next music chapter – ‘I NEED MY WOMAN’ – a single determined and chosen not by his team, but by the fans.
Selected by the fans through a unique global activation, the new track from Ziggy Alberts is one that is wrapped up in his signature warmth and charisma, not to mention an instant and broad audience appeal.
The campaign, which saw a global network of fans engage with three unreleased tracks via vintage rotary phones set up at independent cafes in 35+ locations, led to ‘I Need My Woman’ emerging as a clear frontrunner. Via a dedicated global hotline number, fans were able to call in and listen to the songs, while then being able to leave their feedback and vote after the beep.
Over 1,000 messages later, the decision was final.
‘I Need My Woman’ marks a bold new direction for the artist, though the DNA of his style and storytelling talent remains at its core. The end result mixes feelings of nostalgia and euphoria together, delivered with heart. With fans around the world connecting with this sentiment, finding the spirit and vibrancy of the music instantly captivating, it became evident that ‘I Need My Woman’ contained a new facet of Ziggy’s musicianship that fans wanted to experience more of.
“I wrote a lot of this on the South Coast, which is where these memories come from – hence the line in the second verse: ‘On the South Coast drive, passing the tallest trees, having midnight thoughts about needing therapy…’ It makes me smile to be able to explain so clearly those thoughts you have at midnight. Do I need therapy? The answer – yes. Have I had it yet? No. But being able to admit that and share it in a song, in singing, feels real.
The bridge and the huge outro build is just so important to me. I’m really stoked with where it landed, how guttural and emotional it is. I can’t wait to play this one live.” ZIGGY ALBERTS
The success of this fan activation has proven the importance of connection between an artist and their audience: the hotline has brought Ziggy and his community closer together than ever before.
The track itself is primed for sing along sessions, a co-production between Ziggy and longtime collaborator Garrett Kato. Written two years ago, the song is part of a batch of material that will feature as part of Ziggy’s forthcoming new creative arc – more on which will be revealed very soon.
Ziggy himself reflects on this unique selection process for ‘I Need My Woman’, “After writing this song so long ago, and then recording it almost two years ago…truthfully, I didn’t know how I felt about it anymore. I also had this feeling of wanting to stop guessing what people wanted and instead just ask them.
It’s slower than my usual choice for singles, and it’s a laptap song, but that’s exactly why I wanted to do this. I didn’t want it to be my opinion of what should be the single. I wanted it to be what the community wanted. I seriously thank everyone who voted for that.”
With over 1 billion catalogue streams, 10 platinum singles, two gold albums, and 100K+ live attendees across his 2025 World Tour in support of his acclaimed NEW LOVE album, Ziggy brings a proven global fanbase to one of the most recognisable songs in the modern folk-pop canon.
Hits like “Runaway” – surpassing 128 million Spotify streams and achieving ARIA Triple Platinum status, Gold Status in Canada and New Zealand – and “Love Me Now” have resonated with audiences worldwide. His impressive collection of accolades includes ARIA Triple Platinum for “Laps Around The Sun,” Double Platinum for fan favourites “Days In The Sun,” “Gone,” and the EP “Four Feet In The Forest,” plus multiple Gold certifications and three APRA Music Awards for Most Performed Blues and Roots Work.
