Adelaide darlings The Tullamarines release ‘OMG’

Hot on the heels of their August release ‘Loser’, which saw them touring the East Coast and receiving yet another dazzling round of praise from the music scene right across the country, Adelaide indie-rock darlings The Tullamarines are back with a fun, bright and boogie-worthy new single called ‘OMG’.

A song that captures so vulnerably and so beautifully the experience being an introverted-type in a world suited for not-quite-that, ‘OMG’ delves into themes of anxiety and self-consciousness, all the while maintaining the most upbeat and sunny of soundscapes. On the meaning and intentions behind the track, The Tullamarines have said:

“‘OMG’ is about feeling inadequate, in yourself, for other people and when you see friends or people you like, wanting to give them all of you but not being brave enough. You just hide in your shell again, go home early again and let the anxiousness win again. It’s the feeling of the uber ride home early because your tummy was in knots while ‘Party Rock Anthem’ is playing on the radio and you’re just kicking yourself for not being an extrovert full of energy 24/7.”  THE TULLAMARINES

Working with Izaac Wilson (The Moving Stills, Dante Knows, Rum Jungle, Lipstick Palms) to record the track in bassist Lucinda Machin’s studio, The Tullies were forced to speed-run their creative process while making ‘OMG’, due to external factors. What was at first a stressful turn of events, however, quickly became an unexpected opportunity to work on the music in a way that they’d never done before:

“This was our first time recording with a producer outside of the band in the room with us. We recorded it the weekend of the crowdstrike outages which meant our normal 3 days of recording got shrunk down to just one because our producer Izaac’s plane got delayed about 6 times. While this felt like the end of the world at the time. In retrospect it may have been a blessing in disguise as it pushed us to work at a different pace and just roll with our guts and what felt right in the moment rather than overthinking and intellectualising every little detail of the song. The result we believe is a really concise and natural feeling piece of work that we are super proud of.”  THE TULLAMARINES
