Central Coast singer-songwriter JOEL LEGGETT, already known for an emotive and charged sense of storytelling, has presented a new slice of material to fans in his new single – a collaboration with fellow musician ANNASTANTON (ALIVAN BLU), titled ‘BIRDHOUSE’.
The single launches ahead of Joel’s much anticipated album ‘DON’TWAIT’, which is slated for release later this month.
A fitting addition to what is becoming a strong run of single releases from Leggett in 2024 (including ‘Cup Of Tea’ which amassed +200kstreams in its first two months), ‘Birdhouse’ perfectly represents elevation in songwriting, as well as a great dynamic with Stanton; both flourish on this track that musically, evokes the nature of blissful indie-folk – a perfect road trip, nostalgia vibe.
‘Birdhouse’ was recorded at AlleywayStudios in Byron Bay with previous producer ManningAllen-Scott (LilliFairfax, TheGood Love) on mixing and mastering.
As Leggett describes, ‘Birdhouse’ explores “the romanticised notion of escaping to California and the dream that anyone can find success there.” Prompting images of sun-soaked days, and the yearn for adventure, ‘Birdhouse’ is made to be immersed in.
2024 has been a busy year already for Leggett, who has been taking strides forward musically, as he gears up for the release of his new project, studio album DON’T WAIT. Featuring singles ‘MAIZY’, ‘CUP OF TEA’, ‘NICE GUY’, ‘MONDAY PEOPLE’, ‘LOVE IS SO EASY’ and ‘LOSING MY MIND’, the record is an expansive view of Leggett’s journey as a songwriter and musician in recent years.
With early inspiration being taken from a variety of names, from The Beatles through to Australian artists like Kim Churchill and Angus and Julia Stone, Leggett’s sound has evolved into one that is warm, rich in tone – signature to his own personality.
The vocals are catchy and melodic; arrangements full of substance; lyrically, Leggett injects strong narrative direction into songs full of heart.
Developing a loyal following around Australia following the release of his CHANGING CURRENTS album back in 2015 – the record proved to be more than just an arrival moment for Leggett. The music on that album demonstrated longevity; with over 13,500,000 streams to date, it remains a foundational piece of Leggett’s body of work.
