Newcastle’s teddie has today released her third single for 2024; the bright, textured and impossibly catchy indie-pop track ‘strawberry cake’ - accompanied by the announcement of teddie’s first ever headline tour.
Written after finding some key visual inspiration online, ‘strawberry cake’ is a masterclass in pop songwriting - hitting the listener with hook after hook of bubbly bedroom-pop goodness, the track see’s teddie’s vocals and personality truly shine; evoking sonic comparisons to the likes of Clairo, Benee and Beebadoobe.
“In my first 2 releases of the year, you may have picked up on some existential crisis vibes, which I can confirm you were absolutely right. This song is silly and fun, but also comments on feeling grateful to be able to celebrate another birthday with the people I care about the most. To be quite honest I was completely inspired by this very specific photo on Pinterest of a girl in a baby pink dress with smudged mascara, eating cake with her hands, with lace gloves still on. That exact image is what ‘strawberry cake’ emulates.”

Produced by Nick Zaharaias (The Buoys, Gia Darcy, Awa Mbaye) and mixed by Matt McGuffie (IVEY the band, Tia Gostelow), ‘strawberry cake’ has some seriously slick production at play.
During the recording process, Zaharias and teddie were not afraid to experiment to find the sounds they were after, leading to a unique final product that lends itself to teddie’s vocal style perfectly.
“I was very much in my Pink Patheress era when writing my new music with producer Nick Zaharias. We slowly started building the song and I had a million things to rhyme with. My favourite part to record was the swooshy bridge, which has a quiet chorus with gang vocals, it was just Nick and I shouting about cake for like 10 takes or something - twas very fun!”

Teddie has garnered a significant fanbase and solid industry backing over the last few years, carving a name for herself with impossibly catchy hooks and an impressive live set (that often includes the odd saxophone solo from the young Novocastrian).
With significant editorial playlist support from both Spotify and Apple Music, Teddie has managed to build a significant online following in her relatively short career - with over 350k streams for her debut EP ‘theodore’ (produced by frequent collaborator and friend Campell Burns of Vacations).
On the stage, teddie initially cut her teeth playing in live bands (backing up for the likes of imbi the girl, Fritz and Underlay) but has since found her home at the front.
During her time as a solo artist, she has supported the likes of STUMPS, Pacific Avenue, Hope D, Adam Newling, Velvet Trip, Sesame Girl, EGOISM and Vacations; and has made festival appearances at Groovin The Moo and BIGSOUND.
This June will mark teddie’s first headline tour, where she will be bringing a new batch of material to fans in Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong.
“Teddies first tour! I’ve been lucky enough to play with some amazing shows with heaps of incredible artists over the years but never my own headline tour. Though daunting to think about, it is probably the top thing I’m looking forward to this year on the Teddie excel spreadsheet. From getting some amazing support acts, to designing the stage to make it more ‘teddie’, we’ll be playing a bunch of new songs which I hope people are excited to hear!!!”
