South Summit return with dreamy new single ‘Givin’ It Up’

Having emerged as one of the country’s most exciting young groups, South Summit have consistently been growing a body of music that has perfectly captured their ease of spirit; charismatic songwriting talent, and engaging presence on record that has translated just as seamlessly into a beloved live show.

Coming off the back of a great, fruitful year in 2023, the West Australian group have revealed their first taste of new music for 2024 in the melodic and breezy, ‘Givin’ It Up’. As the first indication of South Summit’s creative journey for 2024, the single is beautifully executed – a track that achieves maximum impact from the first listen

Renowned for their electric & captivating live performance, South Summit channel this energy in ‘Givin’ It Up’, with no doubts that they are solidifying themselves as one of Australia’s strongest live acts. Their diverse and wide-reaching range of influences makes them an enthralling band to both listen to and watch.

“‘Givin’ It Up’ tells the story of South Summit! Illuminating the everyday life for us, Sharing the best of times where we as a band, find ourselves at our happiest. We cherish blissful vibes and whanau, and really capture the feeling of sharing stories and having a jam in the backyard over a couple drinks and a bbq. This is elevated through reggae chops and singalong melodies where everyone can feel a part of what makes us, South Summit. The things we give up and the sacrifices we make to reap certain rewards, come in all different shapes and sizes. But at the end of the day, we can all relate to what we are sacrificing for.”

The new single was recorded at Perth’s Blackbird Sound Studio, South Summit working with producer Dave Parkin (Spacey Jane) and mastering engineer Brian Lucey (Post Malone, The Black Keys). As the band themselves describes, ‘Givin’ It Up’ emerged rather organically out of one of their many jam sessions. Built around a gorgeous reggae/indie vibe, ‘Givin’ It Up’ keeps the essence of the group in check.

“With a focus on keeping it stripped back, the song revolves around three main chords. Early on, we recognised its catchy hook, which became the driving force behind the track. We were tossing up between giving it a reggae or indie vibe, ultimately opting for reggae—a decision we’re glad we stuck with. Recording this song was a joy, and playing it live is even more fun.”

Playing the iconic Sydney Opera House is a huge milestone achievement for the band, we’re so stoked to be given the opportunity! We’ll also be heading back to our favorite spots Brisbane and Melbourne, while finishing off the run with an Indi Bar show in our hometown of Perth. We’ve got a lot of new music coming out soon, and we can’t wait for you all to hear them. These will be some of the biggest shows we’ve ever done around the country, and we can’t wait to see you all there.” South Summit
