Buttered release their soul-soaked debut album 'Homesick'

The Gold Coast’s very own Buttered have just released their superbly soul-soaked debut album, Homesick. A stunning record that reaches into a variety of themes and musical styles with skilful ease, Homesick is an album sure to solidify this soul-pop duo’s position as one of the most exciting acts in the country right now. Finding its place somewhere between Soul, Pop, Acoustic Folk and RnB, the album was inspired by quite an eclectic range of iconic artists:

“We produced Homesick while being inspired by the likes of Parcels to D’angelo, Marvin Gaye and Post Malone, most [of the record] being created in one of our bedrooms or Scott’s mum's house.”  BUTTERED

Thematically, best mates Scott and Jackson delved head-first into the ever-changing nature of romantic relationships in the exercise of writing this record. Tracks like ‘Blue Jeans’ perfectly embody the style of many a 90’s RnB ballad; velvety smooth and seductive as all hell.

On the contrary, songs like the album’s most recent single, ‘Jealous’, look into the heavier side of romance, and the experience of having to deal with one’s own demons and downfalls when it comes to relationships. Covering the good and the bad alike, the result is a harmony-infused masterclass in how to write an album about love.

“We wanted to string together lots of different elements of love and relationship. Mostly romantic or lustful (‘Blue Jeans’, ‘Honey Lips’, ‘Perfect’) but have the other, difficult parts of relating (‘Jealous’, ‘Experience’). Homesick is our representation of all things in a relationship and how you can have nostalgia with many different parts of relating with someone even when it’s
kind of shit.”

Mixed by Jared Adlam of Machine Lab Recording Studios (Caligula’s Horse, Brooke Schubert, Matt Cornell) and mastered by Paul Blakey (Amy Shark, Sarah de Warren, Casey Barnes), Homesick was recorded and produced by the band themselves across a variety of locations.

“Homesick began at the beginning of 2022 where we headed down to Lennox Head for a week to begin writing the album.  After finishing 12 or so songs/ideas we decided we were going to record and produce the entire album ourselves. Hence why it’s taken this long.”  BUTTERED

To celebrate the release of the long-awaited debut album, the duo will be embarking upon an intimate album launch tour, playing a handful of dates across QLD and NSW:

“We’ve been perfecting our live set over the last twelve months, incorporating songs from the album and getting an upbeat and energetic experience for the crew that come out and see us. We’ve been good friends with Mirror Mirror for a long time, so we’re thrilled to have them joining us on our debut album tour! We look forward to meeting you all then.”  BUTTERED

“From weeks recording in a shed to a beautiful home in Toowoomba or mostly in a spare room at each other's houses we slowly but surely pieced the album together… It was a learn as you go process, but we are so stoked with having had so much time to sit on ideas and take the music wherever it needed to go without rushing anything. Shout out to our mixing engineer Jared Adlam who had to deal with our novice sessions that were a mess...To sum
it up, we can’t wait to do it again!”
